Read Visibility Horizon

Use a visibility horizon to reduce normal access to older un-actioned plate reads while preserving records that have been pinned to a case, alert or review workflow.

What the horizon does

A visibility horizon controls when older un-actioned plate reads stop appearing in normal operational views. It is designed for organisations that want useful review windows without leaving every unpinned read visible indefinitely.

The setting can be unlimited or a defined number of months. Raising the horizon can make more older data visible again; lowering it narrows what day-to-day users see.

The horizon is an access and visibility control. It does not, by itself, delete or permanently de-identify the underlying record. Disposal, de-identification and legal holds should be handled under the organisation's records and privacy process.

What stays visible

• Case evidence — anything already pinned to a case stays attached to that record.
• Chalk-chain evidence — sightings that show when a timed stay began remain available when they support a case or review.
• Visit context — entry and exit reads tied to a review record stay with that record.
• Alerts — reads that raised an authorised alert remain available for the relevant workflow.
• Recent reads — reads inside the configured horizon remain visible for normal review.

Before changing it

Set the horizon to match the review window your team actually uses. Unlimited should be a deliberate setting with a recorded reason, not a default assumption.

Before changing the setting, check the organisation's purpose, notice, records authority, export needs and privacy expectations. If older data is no longer needed, the next question is disposal or de-identification, not only whether it is hidden from normal views.
