What local laws control

Local Laws is the legal reference library for cases. Add the local laws your council or organisation enforces, then map case activity, parking offence decisions and enforcement outcomes back to those records.

Each local law can carry the name, category, status, last updated date, legislation reference, section or clause, short description, penalty and whether an inspection is required. Those details stay with the case so officers and reviewers can see the legal basis for the work.

Local Laws lists the legal records available for cases and enforcement mapping.

Local law records

A record can be created manually or imported from a council CSV. Use the table to search, create new records, switch between active and archived laws, sort and manage visible columns.

  • Name — the short operational name used by staff.
  • Category — the operational grouping, such as parking, building, signage or short stay.
  • Law & section — the legal instrument and clause that support the offence.
  • Penalty — the penalty value used when the law is enforced.
  • Status — whether the local law is active, archived or under review.

Editing a local law

Open a local law to edit its identity and offence details. The identity section records the operational name, category, council owner, law name, law type, section or clause, law year and legislation reference.

Identity fields define how the law appears and how it is cited.

The offence section records the offence description, trigger and penalty fields. These values are what operators and downstream case workflows rely on when the local law is used.

Process and review

Use the infringement, timing and process fields to define how the law behaves once enforced. You can record notice periods, response periods, whether inspections or reinspections are required, whether warnings are allowed, and whether a permit is required.

Timing and process settings guide how the case should progress.

Applicability and review settings help describe who the local law applies to and whether the record is complete. This keeps case tasks aligned to the correct liable party and review status.

Applicability and review fields keep legal records structured and auditable.

Available fields

Available Fields controls which columns are offered in the Local Laws table and their order. This lets a council keep only the fields it needs visible, while still storing unavailable fields in the background.

Available fields can be reordered or removed from the table view.

Extra legal-source fields can be added when a council needs them, including authority, law year, instrument number, administering body, gazette date, law type, source, instrument title, instrument short title, made under section, gazette reference and commencement date.

Unavailable fields can be added when a council needs more legal-source detail.
